I know you've said he's not friendly with strangers, but OH how I want to kiss that Mattiedog's beautiful face. He's such a heartthrob :)

Your puppy is a puppy until they are at least 2 years old. It's so easy to forget the trouble they cause in the first two years, but so important to remember. My little girl will be 2 years old on Halloween. I have to remind myself she is still in her teenage years, when she will take the punishment for something she knows is wrong like getting into the trash or taking food off our plates. My last dog was the same way , different breed, but such a mind of her own at this age and the males are more headstrong, which is another aspect of their personality to celebrate. Later she was the best behaved dog in the world. In two years Matty will be so in synch with your every move, just like Baby was, it will be easy to forget how crazy he once was. Enjoy this time when they're pretty good but still a bit wild. PS Your web site reminded me to have fun like I did as a little girl. I'm an art teacher and I was thinkin' all the fun was for my students. Thanks for pushing me back to myself

maybe the fairies are about to bring you a baby vanessa! that's why they appeared...the time has come!

And they called it puppy love....

Smiles :)

Matty looks fab in his Jane Austen costume. I'm catching up on my blog reading and have really enjoyed reading your posts. I also wanted to let you know I'm hosting my first blog giveaway on my blog (http://mimiandtilly.blogspot.com) to celebrate my first blog anniversary, and to say thank you to my blog friends for their support and friendship. It would be lovely if you wanted to enter. I have really enjoyed reading your blog over the past year and have found it very inspirational. I'm going to be giving away a piece or two of silver and gemstone jewellery designed and made by me. Oh, and, I love your out door bath/shower space! Sending smiles, Em x

Ohh your selling the desert to me. Im in soggy winter and the thought of heat and dryness is something I m craving, so thanks for the warming fill up, it has my heart oozing with dusty warmness.
Precious Matty is so handsome and I love the way he makes up his own games so he is the winner, its a wonderful world.

Enjoy your shower in paradise
you deserve some bliss

It's wonderful. Matty is protecting you. The love you have passed on is coming right back at you. A very special and loyal companion.

Dear Vanessa, I love the pictures of Matty and 'his' rabbit. That is too cute, too brilliant. Furbabies are so special in our lives and the love they teach us and share is beyond riches. I think it would be wonderful to do a post about pets. That could be very helpful. Your new cameo is beautiful. I hope you find your other one soon. I am sad you missed the Tea Party, too, but Totally understand! I hope if you get time you can visit ours. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend. Twyla

V~

Thinking about dragging my bathtub out to the backyard today!! :)

Random: I wish I could sing!

Happy Weekend to you!!

Well, I concur on the crazy fur baby love! I can't help it either. I love puppies, and puppy breath.....oh my, heaven!

When I was 14, my father gave me a cameo for Christmas. He picked it out himself. I have loved that pin for 32 years now. I still have it, still wear it. I have aquired a few more since then, and just a few days ago paid for a commissioned piece that is a cameo ring made with sterling sliver and brass. It is gorgeous!! I can't until it arrives in a few days! You can see it at 6shadows jewelry on Etsy!

anywhooo, I'm so happy to see your heart slowly heal and am so proud of Matty for stepping up for Baby. He has big paws to fill! I think he is doing a darn good job!

Oh, lastly...I have the most amazing dragon flys right now. In downtown Denver, at dusk it is usually the bats that come out. But for some reason this year, it is these huge dragon flys. And they are amazing! Hundreds come out at dusk and just fly all around me or my court yard area. I have never seen anything like it before. When they come out, I am so happy and peaceful, it is weird. It is like they are gifting me with these incredible gifts, I just can't explain it. It is so beautiful to witness and experience it. They are gorgeous!! I truly feel magic all around me when they come out. truly. magic. really.

Oh, your Matty writings made me laugh today! The reluctant Miss Jane and the conquering rabbit warrior! Hee hee! I even called my hubby over to show him. He is a big lover of our own little doggie fur boy. I'm glad Matty is warming up to you even more. I know that does your heart good!

Don't you just wish you could leave those gorgeous eggs out as a centerpiece forever? Of course, I know that wouldn't work out too well, but STILL . . . so pretty!

The beautiful cameo! What a sweet one, that Mr. Lovey. My mother gave me a cameo ring with the lady wearing a necklace, and I just love it. I believe she thinks it used to be her great aunt's. It is tucked away, but now I am inspired to get it out and wear it now and then.

I love your own personal outside spa. Such a special set-up for pampering.

Thank you for this post. I loved it. : )

This post was one of my favorites. (I think I say that about them all) You seem much more at peace.

You truly have a paradise out there, (despite the heat) and a wonderful place to call your home.

Oh, oh and I can't wait to see what you have to share! :)

Oh, that Matty...such a ham ;) Love the new cameo and hope you find the other one V! What sweet fairies too!

Jamie :)

your posts take me away....

But i love love love Buddy the Wonderdawg and i feed him his fave bread and brush his hair and call him buddercup and sing show tunes to him and he STILL wont let me dress him up-not even a ribbon or a perfectly respectable bandanna!! (He watches me when i read Shakespeare to him though, i think he thinks i am nutso...)

so yes to the puppy post. B-)

u know what other post i want? HOW your garden grows too-a schematic, with colors, and when you planted what and what grows better from seed vs a wee plantling and do you use any kind of buggy control and what the caterpillar said (was he Italian? is that why you put him in the cilantro?) :-)
xoxoxox roooooooo
PS thats a perfect description of the world outside my door-uggy muggy
PSS I need my outdoor shower!!!
PSSS we get those fairies toooo
PSPS that cameo is gorgeous!

"gets annoyed when I want to play Jane Austen Lives..." - hahahaha that killed me with laughter!! And the stuffed rabbit adventures, that's so wonderful!

But right now I'd like one of those tropical baths in that wonderful freshness, thank you. :)

Hello, Miss Vanessa
Fairies! Yay!
Of course, I do love the 'Fairy Tale' movie about the Cottingley Faires. The story of two cousins in England, Francis and Ellsie who took snap shots of fairies in 1917. (A sweet gal in England by the name of Jasmoon Butterfly makes dolls online, a few are fairies).
Matty appears to be back to his normal self. Glad he has a happy stuffed toy to play with instead of the real thing, rabbits.
Well, when I did visit Theresa's blog the other day (Faire Moon Creations?) She was posting information for a 'Practical Magic' blog party on September 25th(as you were talking about missing all of the hosted Mad Tea Parties and I remembered Theresa's comments on her blog) and I about flipped! Practical Magic is one of my favorite movies! I love the clothes the two older aunties wear, and the to-die-for Victorian Home that was built especially for the movie. I did find the Practical Magic website about a year and a half ago, and went absolutely nuts over it.
I am so sorry you have lost your cameo. I am sure you have looked everywhere...inside shoes, on shawls, etc.
Have a lovely weekend,
Thanks again for all of the whimsical photos!
=^..^=
XOXO
Miss Teresa

OH!! I love Practical Magic myself. I did a huge post about it
last year, pictures I found etc. Must findthe linkfor you Miss
Teresa ;)--- Oh I didnt lose my cameo, thank heavens... but I lost
a rose pin that I thought would accompany it nicely. It is missing from
the box. Must be leprechauns, as the whole thing is utterly odd.

As for fairytale the movie, isnt it beyond words? I have seen it so
many times, I have every word memorized. I think I might play it
today. I so hope it rains, because rain makes me want to cozy up and
read..... Yummy..... Happy Saturday!! Buckets of star-lights abound
~

Me again. I read your post over again and is it the coral rose you are missing and not the Cameo pin? Hope you do find it!
Hugs,
Miss Teresa

What a wonderful idea, Vanessa! Let's definitely do a furry baby post. It would be so much fun! Outdoor showering? Fresh eggs? How idyllic. There is NO privacy all where I live, so an outdoor shower is totally out of the question. LOL But I can imagine how relaxing that would be. We'd have horrid weather this week, and I needed to collect candles and flashlights as tornado alerts were in my area. We did not experience them, but four surrounding towns did. :( Ahhhh, I SO want fall to be here!!!
Matty is beyond adorable...I wonder what he is thinking exactly as he dons his Jane Austen cap! I love how he hides his bunny and then retrieves it. My eldest dog knows when its beddy-bye time and searches for the perfect toy to bring on the bed with her...EVERY night! It's funny and so cute. So it's me, the mister, Neo, Willow and whatever toys happen to be on the bed with us!
A fairy sighting! How magical!!! I will tell you this - a few years ago, on a walk in the woods, I was drawn to this one particular leaf and took a photo of it. I swear - in the shadows of the leaf - there appeared a fairy face grinning back at me. I need to find that photo!!!
Enjoy a fabulous weekend, dear friend!
Theresa :)

Hi Vanessa,
Nice post! I'd love to have an outdoor shower! Mister Lovee was so cute to give you that cameo, which, by the way, is really nice! I hope you find the rose pin you are missing.
Matty is such a funny fellow, he always makes me smile! And I wonder how do you play the Jane Austen Lives game?
Have a nice day :)

Ahemmmmmmm. In my dancing days, I could do a perfect split and touch the TOP of my head with the back leg. I was very bendy and a lot more fun then! First, have I told you lately that I adore you, for I should have told you a million times by now. Second, the lighting in photo #2 is absolutely magical. ♥♥♥ Third, the movement in photo #4 is beyond incredible, dizzifying! Lastly, I love fur babies. Actually I have even loved hairless rats. They are very people oriented and extremely sweet. Oh wait, that wasn't last, this is... **blows kisses** Deb

Oh!
I simply must tell you that I think you live such a beautiful life! Your blog is SO inspiring to me and I love all of your little anecdotes and images... beautiful!

Thank you for living life to the fullest, and exactly how you want to! It's a lesson we all should take to heart.

:)

An Outdoor shower! that is awesome!

I always love your photographs!

And Matty looks as if he is grinning, so pleased with himself for inventing a new game!

random #1 i hate shower curtains cause they suck in and stick to you in the shower!
random #2 i hate long finger nails on men. random #3 you make me smile!

by the way a stray mumma cat has found a home with us..lucky puss, my 3 girls shower her with love!! just got to get rid of that stinky old tom who wants a bit of her too!

xxrosey

Matty is just adorable, and what a clever guy to hide and catch the rabbit, hehe!

And I love the idea of a fur babies post - or better yet, maybe some kind of fur babies party??! You know, like the Mad Tea Party, but with fur babies? Just a thought. :)

OK, three random things...

#1 I think road trips are the perfect vacation.

#2 I own very few articles of clothing that are not covered in paint, and I don't care.

#3 I can't work most of the functions on my cell phone, and have never sent or received a text message. Hopeless, I know. :)

♥ Carolee

vanessa, your posts are too long. they take more time than i expect for me to read and linger there with you.

and yet...

and yet...

i read every word. i always do. you pull me in and i am beside you, taking it all in with you!

i of course can't remember all that i want to comment on and i refuse to take notes, so here is a random thought or two or three:

1. i'm glad your spirit is returning. i think baby is enjoying that

2. i love dogs and love stories about dogs. my stella has a sad mean history for probably 8 years before she came into our family. for a year we couldn't touch her without her being afraid. now, there is nothing better than her love and trust. it makes me smile all day, just knowing how happy and secure she is.

3. i can text but i don't know much else on my phone. i don't know how to use the memory thingy.

4. matty and jane austin? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! that is hilarious vanessa. totally adorably cute and hilarious.

okay, that's it for now. be well, take care. oh one more thing: the outside shower. lucky lucky you.

xoxo

Oh the stories of Matty make me smile from ear to ear. The fact that he plants his own bunny to catch later cracks me up and is genius!! Smart puppy you have there and he is adorable!
Your cameo is beautiful and I hope you find your heart soon.
Hugging you and missing you
SueAnn

I love ALL of this post. Especially the fur baby part. My fur baby, who is now an elderly limping thirteen, was SUCH a wild little part-wolf puppy, VERY Alpha, and living with ME, thinking he was so funny and adorable, he didnt get very "trained". He did settle down somewhat after turning ten....:)......anyway the stuffed rabbit story reminded me of my Pup's first months, when I was still working part-time. I gave him treats as a bribe when I left the house, and he would accept the treat in his mouth, but sit glaring at me balefully and reproachfully and SPIT it back out on the floor. He would howl like the baby wolf he was when I pulled out of the driveway. When I came home, the treat would still be where he spat it, but THEN he'd be happy and joyous, and would deign to eat it. Anyway the story I was thinking of is that I used to give him those rawhide pig ears, which he loved. Having been a rescue, living in the forest at a garbage dump and very hungry in his early weeks, he would always want to bury his ear, to save for later. I had a huge potted planter with a semi-tree in it in the living room. One night when I came home, he had buried his pig ear in the planter and had scooped all the dirt out onto my BRAND NEW WALL TO WALL LIGHT CREAM RUG.

"No, no, no, BAD, NO pig ears in the planter!!!!"
Next night - same thing, buried pig ear, dirt on carpet (he couldnt find any other solution indoors).
Another big No-No conversation.
Third night: no dirt. All serene, clean carpet. "GOOD doggy! WONDERFUL doggy! GOOD BOY!"
Until I saw........down the BACK of the planter, between the pot and the wall.........dirt! He had been smart enough to scoop the dirt out BEHIND the plant, where it wouldnt show, and had buried his pig ear in there.

Too darned smart, for a dog. He led me a merry wild chase till his arthritis hobbled him. I adore this dog. I hate that he is old and one day soon will not be with me.

I so enjoyed all of your photos and your writing.......I love your site!!!!!

Your photos are always so beautiful, magical, and inspiring. Do you mind sharing your secret on how you edit your photos to that lovely shape? What program do you use? I'm still shopping around for a decent photo editing program. Hope you find your coral rose!

Vanessa...

I simply adore your "Everyday" posts. You know, the simple snippets that you share, the ins and outs of your everyday life. Thank you for that. Oh...and I love the story about Matty and her rabbit hiding!! So sweet!

Kim
Gerushia's New World

I love your posts. They are so whimsicle. I loved the picture in the bonnet. aww!! Made me think about the time my daughter put the furbaby (as kittens) in a crib. lol

Miss Vanessa! You know I adore you with all my little heart and soul...and am the Mommy of two Pom puppies (not really puppies anymore but they will always be to me). Anyway, just have to say, one so does not put a hat on a puppy! ;-) Good grief, if I tried to put a hat on Ziggy I think he would take off my hand! But I loved how Matty would hide his rabbit and then "find" it again...too cute!

Now let's get down to brass tacks (where did THAT come from..."Grandma can you hear me??"). Your cameo from Mr. Lovee is beyond beautiful! Perfection!

And finally...I love your "dress-up" posts, they're so fun and whimsical...so you. We need more of them! <3

Hi Vanessa,
Just stopped by to say hello. Your new puppy is wonderful. You can still enjoy the mad hatter tea. Each post was magical. Have a lovely week.
Karen

Hello Vanessa, Wonderful post as always..love little Matty story..animals are so smart..they truly are just like people:)Did you visit my tea party page?
Your display was beautiful, love the fabrics, I adore fabric. You never mention where you shop hint hint..you have the most unusual items. One day I would like to see you start with a blank canvas/room and share your thought process..or should I say how to decorate whimsy..teehee Blessing loves BIG HUGGS always!

Hi Vanessa,
Lovely post, as always. Our puppy, too, had a less than beautiful start in life. We could see every bone in her body when she came to us. As much as we wanted to feed her great huge bunches we had to take it very slow and steady. For the longest time when food was put down for her we thought the whole house would be inhaled into a great dark hole and disappear she ate so fast! Now she is 7. She knows there will always be food for her and she will nibble all through the day as she pleases. So so sweet and funny she is. But not to strangers - mostly man-type strangers.

Your wee catterpillar is an inch worm and will devour an entire plant in one day! Be careful . . . he may have friends.

This post makes me miss my home - Arizona. So looked forward to monsoon season. I will be coming to AZ in September to move my mother here to Houston. I look forward to the heat and will wave as I come through Tucson.

By the by - beautiful cameo.

Have a wonderful productive week.

♥ I'm loving your lovely snapshots this afternoon (whilst I sip my iced tea and munch my muffin)! tee hee Your magical world is always such a delight!! (And I'm loving your random thoughts, as well)!!

Cheerio And a lovely new week to You Dearie!!

Such a funny, funny post. Your puppy loves you to wear that hat, but he has the same look on his face when I put hats on my cat. Too crazy.

Oh, oh, oh - bathing outside. I have been begging my DH to put in a claw foot tub out in the yard for outdoor bathing. I think even in winter it would be divine. And now you have made me want it even more.

Have fun dressing up and playing.

Matty and the stuffed rabbit story had me literally laughing out loud. Too funny and genius, too.

Plus, I loved your description of AZ in the summer. When I lived there, everytime someone would tell me "but it's a dry heat" I wanted to scream. Dry or not, you're still walking into a huge oven!! LOL

I can never get enough of your Puppy stories. So write on, my friend. I was just thinking did you get to enjoy the Tea Party with Baby's passing, thank goodness you can travel back now to see all the wondrous you helped create.
I love cameos, always have. Your is lovely, Mister Lovee is the best.

That is the silliest nonsensical song ever written, but OH SO DELIGHTFUL at the same time!!! It makes me think of HAppy Buns!! Bunnies? They can be happy buns of a different variety that bring smiles and giggles of a different kind ;-).

OK, let's see: 3 random things
1. I buy clothes that I love so much, but I'm afraid to wear them because I may spill something or more likely someone will spill something on me...oh yes, it happens all the time ;-(.

2. I still have my Jessica McClintock/Guinne Sax skirts from high school-vintage 1976-80.

Every July I start listening to Christmas music and dreaming of winter. Me thinks maybe if music is wintery maybe the weather will be too ;-).

Uh-oh! Hagitha is telling me it's time to get back to work...she's a bit bossy that one ;-((...tee hee

Oh Mister Lovee's gift...cameo's have a language all their own, don't you think? That Mister of yours sure does know how to speak to your heart. I hope you find your red rose soon ;-).

I have been lurking here for almost two years. You are such an inspiration. What I want to know is--are you really only 1 person? LOL You do more in a day than I do in six months. I'd be jealous but you're just too adorable. You and your Mom have the kind of relationship my daughter and I have. My mother--not so much--which is sad. Anyway, blessings to you and Mr. Lovee and your puppies--may you blog forever! Geanee
