Okay so, I am tricky. But then again, no one ever said I wasn't ;)
This post really isn't about truffles :)
But I feared that if I said, Rose Covered Paths, you might be like, isn't she over the roses yet? Doesn't she realize how annoying she is? I know how annoying I am. I do. It's just that, well, I can't help myself. But, you can slap me in your mind, if it makes you feel better?
The thing is...
We sort of fell right over the edge.
Don't worry, I am not talking in third person.
I'm not that far gone, yet ;)
I am talking about, Matty, Miles and Me.
Miles really started the whole thing.
He stuffs his face in a rose, sniffs real deep and then tears it right off, giggling as he skips way. And truth is, he's so cute, if he loves the roses that much, by golly he should have some.
I just have to tell you about his fave game.
Toss the roses.
HE LOVES this game!
He wishes it could go on all day.
I toss rose petals in the air, and he catches them.
Then gently spits them out :)
You can practically hear him squealing with delight!
After the game is over, he saunters back and forth on his path. Acting like his kingly self. All while Matty runs around like a madman terrorizing the birds. I have not told him he doesn't have wings yet. I don't think I ever will. He jumps very high, he can pretend ;)
I think Matty and Miles are the only people who can stand me right now (did I just type people?). I secretly think I have driven Mister Lovee absolutely bonkers.
I beg him off the porch, urging him to leave his incredibly cozy spot to join me at looking at the flowers "just right."
I say things like, "if you stand right here, just so, and bend your knees like this, and put your head here like this, and then, put your hand over your eyes like that, you won't believe what you will see..."
And he goes -
"I see it Dove, I see it...."
And then I say, but do you really see it?
Look look, if you make a loose fist and look through it, the way the light comes through the trees and just graces the flowers is marvelous. You don't want to miss it. Can you see it?
And he goes
"Yes, oh, yes splendid, beeeaaauuutiful..."
All while he tries to escape back to his cozy seat.
Then I look around for my partner in crime.
And I go, Miiiiiles, look at these flowers, aren't they amazing? Do you realize we live in Arizona? The desert?
And his ears perk up.
Why do his ears perk up, you ask?
Because he totally gets it!
No no, really, he does.
I can tell.
(humor me won't you?)
We begin at the super deep reds...
He walks around with me, acting totally interested.
He knows there are treats at the end of this tour, haha!
Then Mister Lovee walks over and goes, "you know Dove, your garden is looking pretty darn lovely..."
Then I smile.
And continue hanging upside down, knowing that in a week or two, spring rose season will be over. And I will be happy that I savored each moment.
Oh and, by the way...
Rock!
Don't they?
Thank you for coming down my path, and letting me give you eyeballs full of too many garden pictures.
We have sooooooo many projects going, it isn't even funny.
And, we are getting close enough that I can share some soon.
I just don't like to share things/and or talk about them, until they are done, so that I don't jinx them.
Is that silly?
We have been working ever so hard, plus I have been painting (working on several pieces at once), and a smattering of other good stuff. Which is why I have been a little quiet here, and seemingly behind the scenes mad bonkers.
Off to le poste, and to my projects.
Got to do as much as we can outside before summer hits and oven temps keep us from our chores. So, we are working over time ;)
See you super soon!

I could never get tired of your roses, your garden tales, your Matty and Miles and Lovee tales. This post is almost fragrant! :) I'm always grateful you share these moments with us.
Hugs!

I agree, I can practically smell the roses! :-D
Me, I have ranunculus...es? in vases and glasses, here and there right now :) No walks in gardens yet but a glimpse of whatever flowers I found / bought are on my blog.

You're so funny! And Miles and Matty and Mr Lovee too-but mainly you! I keep seeing big roses and thinking of you! And I call the cats people. I love the idea of the rose game. I have got a child in my class who is a little loopy-not pc talk but true and sometimes he runs to a flower, pulls it off its stalk(or tree if it is blossom) and eats it! We have tried to tell him that you don't eat flowers(not true of course but too hard to explain) but I have a secret sympathy for his wild abandon when russhing to stuff the flower in his mouth!

I LoVe your posts about your garden and all that grows. YOU literally remind me to "stop and smell the Roses." and let's not forget "PLAY" I thank you for posting and sharing all your magical moments. Even if I stop for just 5 min and "imagine" my magical place, it's really good enough..at least for now.
Thank you

This was like a living daydream. What gorgeous roses! I love the game you play with Miles. How sweet. Those photos of your precious furry babies surrounded by rose petals are beautiful. I drive the hubby crazy with my garden viewing as well. Look at this! No, look over this way! LOL I can totally relate, Miss Vanessa! Can't wait to learn a bit more about the projects you are working on!!! Take care, dear friend xoxo Theresa

Glad I'm not the only one who occasionally refers to furry ones as "people." Two obsessions we have in common - flowers and dogs - I'll never tire of your stories about them. Good luck with all your projects!

I would tip toe through the tulips, I mean roses with you any day Vanessa. I love to walk in my yard to see what lovelies have sprouted over night. I always take my best bud Trixie, my pooch, and we investigate together. I smell the flowers and then invite Miss Trixie to take a sniff and she does (I love that about her). Although, my yard is not much compared to your secret garden, and need I mention one of my favorite reads as a girl.
Today, I see my trumpet vine is about ready to bloom and my cactus that showed up a few years ago is blooming yellow, as well for the first time (we will not smell these).
When I walk with the neighbor gals I am always pointing out flowers and birds and such. I sometime wonder if these gals think I am too crazy over nature. Oh well, it makes me happy and whole. I must say, I am so jealous over Mr. L calling you Dove! Wow, how adorable and dare I say romantic.
This weekend I too am aiming to finish, or at least complete more on my gardening projects before our cool days leave us. I better get moving, I think we hit 90 degrees today, yikes! Keep enjoying yourself my dear friend. ;)

swooooon... your garden is divine. but your roses are magnificent! what is the name of the deep red climber? I have one that my mother gave me from hers and mine is called Seven Sisters, is that what yours is? so beautiful and your baby is getting sooo big! :)
happy smiles,
Jaime

Love your beautiful photography and story telling. My dogs love when I pick a long stemmed plant, like Queen Anne's Lace, and dangle it over their heads while they try to catch it. Then I'll run with the flower and they chase me and the flower. All the while their muzzles smiling.
Thank you for sharing.

Miles makes me giggle. I love his rose toss game and the perky ears photo and his sweet blond eyelashes. xo

Gotta say, that the 'truffles' didn't do it for me...it was the rose petals!
Vanessa, your roses are superb. I cannot grow them that well, due to too much moisture. See there really IS an up side to living in a desert. Thanks so much for taking so many pickies...and sharing them with us. I don't think I could ever get bored with looking at roses or young Miles. He really is a wonderful little (not so little) guy. Such a wag!

Not silly or annoying at all Ms. V...you know we love it! I'm in the basement right now with 3 half sleeping children on a cold floor (tornado warning, yay ;) Glad I got a second to check in, tee hee. Hugs to you and the boys,
Jamie :)

What a delightful story :) Miles and Matty are too cute! Flowers can seem to have magical qualities when the light hits them just right, it is so fun to get lost in that little natural world! :D You have such a beautiful garden :)

How absolutely beautiful and stunning! I love coming to see your gorgeous roses. My how much Miles has grown! It was just like yesterday he was a pup sneaking in naps and fitting in the smallestbof places! Thanks so much for sharing!

So pretty Miss! I especially love the tea roses, but I might just be biased because of the name ;) At least you are driving them bonkers with something lovely like flowers and not something bad! In fact I don't think looking at flowers would ever annoy me.
ps. guess what, I have a secret....later today I am going to look at a furry (of the canine variety) to possibly adopt! shhhhh, don't tell anyone!

Swoon! Miles is so handsome! My heart goes pitter patter every time I see him and today I giggled out loud at his rose tossing game! What a cutie! xoxo Vanessa, you have the most beautiful garden. Your roses are absolutely breath taking. I love getting lost and wandering through your garden in your amazing photographs. Your posts are such a treat and always brighten my day lifting my spirits. Today's rose covered path was just the ticket and I actually think I can smell the flowers from here also. Thank you so much for sharing your world. You are an angel.
<3 :)

I can't tell you how close I came to slinging some petals a while ago...but I only had one rose, so I couldn't bring myself to!
Your doggie is adorable doing that!!!
You can see some of our Eden today on my blog if you like :)
About those truffles...

A beautiful garden, Vanessa. I swear I can smell the roses. And I love Miles and his smile and games. I so needed the lift me up your post gave me. There can never be enough roses.
Posted by: Kelly Jeanette | April 28, 2011 at 05:48 PM
Now, Miss V., you know we would still be clamoring for more even if your blog was all roses all the time because you would weave your magic and make each post seem completely different despite the fact that they were all rose-y! Nothing like a good game of rose petal catch with Milesy, I see. So cute! We mamas do sacrifice for our kidlings, don't we? You are so sweet to share your precious roses with Miles. The petals do look lovely all strewn about just so. Have a rose-a-licious weekend!

I've had computer problems so trying to catch up. There is a beautiful story of roses and love ~ thank you so much for sharing! The flowers are all exquisite, however, I really don't know the names of a lot of them. I can only imagine their in person beauty and having them inside your home. Miles is right on in loving the rose petals!
