It has been gloriously moist and cloudy here for two days. Such a treat to get a little rain. Yesterday was delicious. Moist cool air, drizzle and dark skies. Since it is always sunny here, a little dark drizzle makes me feel like baking and mystery novels, and doing tedious little chores.
I love scary movies during daylight hours (especially on rainy days). They seem less threatening to my over abundant imagination, with thoughts of things that go bump in the night.
I have been doing chores that are making me so happy. Like, reorganizing my sock drawers to other more accessible spots, with more space. Cleaning out and organizing earrings and make-up. Trying on ridiculous lipsticks. Going through a lifetime supply of hair ties and scarves.
Drawers for everything, places for everything.
Knowing where everything is.
While, some girl out runs trolls on the television.
Then I have lunch with Isaac and Malachi, and Norman Bates turns up for tea.
We invite Linda Blair, but, that gets a little too much, you know what I mean?
I'll have Tubular Bells in my head for a week.
All the while, it rains outside.
An oatmeal cake bakes.
The pups cozy up.
As I continue to happily organize this and that.
Some days are made for little things.
I love days when the most important chore I feel I must do is dust pretty rocks.
I so needed a day off.
It feels ridiculously decadent, to take time out to dust rocks.
To wash them, and admire their color under water.
Mister Lovee and I oooo and aaaah at the moist specimens.
Random change of subject...
Did I tell you I have a new neighbor?
She's been here since early autumn.
We have had so much fun, and we both love to go rock hunting.
Plus, I am the "other mother" to Harley.
Her son, and my new boyfriend.
He is massive huge in person.
I mean HUGE.
I have some lovely purple bruises from playing with him :)
He will nip your bottom and your love handles if you ignore him.
He demands love 24/7.
Matty and him had a scuffle.
Matty lost, but isn't afraid, still.
But Miles, Miles loves Harley.
They have play dates.
It is so great, to have two girl ladies on my street that I enjoy.
Well, I am feeling a little under the weather today, so I won't chat your eyeballs off.
But I do want to share some garden snippets before I go, that are making me butterflies in belly happy.
Like, Icelandic Poppies...
And, watching them spring open...
Winter flowers are the grandest treat.
Just when you think you can't stand the anticipation for spring...
Winter poppies unfurl...
With ranunculus and tulips popping through the earth...
I know my flower talk is probably disgustingly boring. I just can't help being obsessed.
Probably more than last year.
It's keeping me sane.
Do you think you can bear more garden posts here and there?
(yarrow)
So, I have bought some bulbs and plants online in the last year and a half, and since then, my snail mailbox is FULL of garden catalogs.
Flowers and more.
Dangerous those catalogs are.
I get all crazed, promising not to plant any more, whilst folding pages of things I must order.
I swear my heartbeat turns up real high, and I can't think rationally when I look through them.
Am I alone in this, or does the same thing happen to you?
Okay, enough babble for today, I want to dust a little more, and then go to Le Poste, since it was closed yesterday....
I love dusting.
I don't mind having trinkets and treasures that I have to dust. It is one of my favorite chores, and I look upon it fondly. It gives me time to admire all the little things I collect.
What is your fave chore?
Mine are dusting and washing and bleaching sinks.
Off I go, see you soon with a sweet gift ;)
ps: Speaking of scary movies...
Have you seen, Don't be Afraid of the Dark?
Ooooo, scary little troll fairy things!!!
Complete with a haunting mansion and enchanted garden!
I just love Guillermo Del Toro.

I never tire of your garden talk, V. Speaking of daffies, mine are popping up everywhere!!!! Ranunculus & Iceland Poppies have been on my "must plant ASAP" list for 2 years now, but I'm chicken.... I don't have the greenest of thumbs, and I would hate to kill something so lovely. I currently wish that my pitiful stick in the dirt, hydrangea, will all of a sudden sprout a leaf or something to prove there is still some life left in it.

Vanessa:
I wish we lived next door to each other. We have way to much in common!
I to adore dusting my little collections. It brings me close to what I love and keeps me humble. I also love to hand wash and dry my depression glass and vintage noritake china and teapots. These were all inherited from my mom and my aunts.
You could never bore me with flower talk, as I am doing the same thing as you are...browsing through my garden catalogs...
And...I also LOVE Guillermo!

I love your garden talk and seeing the beautiful flowers you grow :) It helps me get through the cold, ugly, Northern Michigan winters. All I see is white, gray, and brown. My children, however, see "sparkling diamonds and magical icicles"!
Thanks for always sharing the beauty you see in the world!

I love to make things look pretty. That may be dusting or doing up the dishes or making the bed...but my favorite chore of all is sweeping.....like sweeping the porch off or the walkway..Love the flower talk girlfriend, you just go at it!:) Its nice to meet someone else who loves scary movies. I LOVE Guillermo too! That was a good movie. I think it missed being great but it was good. I look forward to it coming out on DVD. Hugs! deb

My fav chore is washing dishes to dancable music on the record player. It makes the chore go by in such a fun way!
Posted by: M | January 17, 2012 at 02:20 PM
Deb, I agree, it missed being great, but it was indeed good. Good
enough to satisfy a little need for such a flick. I wish some incredible
scary movie that would fill all my hearts quieros would come out, dont
you? I mean, something to really treasure. I love The
Changeling. But, we need something really scary, like, super haunted house
attic genuinelyscary. I thought The Ring was scary when I saw it at
first. But then I recently saw it again, and I wasnt scared. I
forced myself to see it again, in summer daylight. Not scary anymore

Well, Vanessa
You had me laughing when you were talking about Norman Bates and Linda Blair. One of those was 'The Blair Witch Project' or something like that. Crazy...huh? But the dark fairy tale sounds intriguing, I have never seen it. Of course I remember 'Legend' with Tom Cruise one of his first movies in a fairy tale land with unicorns and evil goblins.
Well, my sweet husband bought hundreds of flower bulbs for Laurelwood which we planted last fall. Our oldest son plans to have his wedding rehearsal there and also the groom's dinner. Should be lots of fun and also lots of planning. We will probably cater the dinner, I hope! It will be in April. So, with photos of your Iceland poppies and other beauties I can totally relate with flowers popping up.
It's nice you had some rain...we have been without rain for a month and a half...not good, and no snow at all in the mountains. The ski resorts are hurting. It is a totally different winter season than last year, probably a drought year will be upon us. And they drained some lakes around us (anticipating lots of rain which has not come) which the agricultural farmers kind of count on for water in the canals. Just crazy things going on weather wise.
I always anticipate what you are creating...
Have a lovely rest of the day~

OOOoooOOOOoooo my Beloved Muse, I had to skip through the post and scroll down at the speed of light to leave a comment about the photo of your rock. How magical! They appear to be floating, weightless, about the Universe! Genius you are! Actually, they appear to be more of a New Universe. I would like to like on the crystal rock planet in the one o'clock position. Delightful! **blows kisses** Deb

My new favorite chore is using my floor steamer. I just got one for Christmas and it has opened up a whole new world of clean floors. Seriously obsessed with it. Keep the flowers coming. We won't see flowers here in PA for quite a while.
Hugs,

I have been cleaning and packing and de-cluttering the house, all for another reason though. I am having a most difficult time with my de-cluttered office...all of my wee beloveds boxed up and in storage at Bad Alice's house. Some closets are more savage on the heart than others, but I am beginning to see this as a new adventure in life, a going back to the beginning of sorts, for Brawny Man and I began in a patio home. But my eyes of flesh will never stop missing my gardens once we do leave. Ah, to have loved a wee patch of the pretty blue planet so deeply for so long. Blessed!

I could never tire of your garden posts!!
My favorite chore...
think think think think think...
Laundry!
Crazy I know but on days like these when it is cold, grey and rainy, clothes right out of the dryer warm body and heart.
mmmmmm snuggly mmmmmm
I hope you feel better!!! Take very good care, perhaps a fine cup of tea with your oatmeal cookies is what the doctor would order :o)

I adore your garden posts! I don't find them boring at all!! My favourite chore would have to be doing the washing, hanging it out in particular. It's an excuse to go outside and I can dream away as I catch sight of passing clouds and tree tops reaching for the sky. The breeze swinging past me ~ ah it's like I'm escaping the housework as I do it :) I hope Matty and your new neighbour can become friends very quickly. Brightest blessings from the Garden x

V,
Thanks for reminding me, through this beautiful little post, that the little things are VERY important. Yes, very. You see, I have been under much stress as of late because of finals for school, and extremely busy. This post--with it's vibrantly colored flowers and simple chores of life--has made me realize that when I become overwhelmed, I can simply set aside my life and just enjoy being. Thank you for that :)
I never tire of your garden talk, Miss V :) It makes me wish I had a garden too! (and time to care for it...)
My favorite chore would have to be...cleaning the kitchen. I don't know why, but it just gives me such satisfaction to wipe down a kitchen piled high with dishes and sweep up the floors :) It reminds me of being Snow White or Rapunzel, and I am completely fine with that! And, even though you didn't specify that you wanted us to tell you our least favorite chores, I shall tell you mine anyway: cleaning the litter box! I love my little fluffy kitties, but I don't love what they leave behind! HA HA!
Thanks once again for the lovely little post :) Keep us updated on the garden! (I know you won't be able to resist anyway :)
From one silly hunny bear to another,
xoxo Jess

Hi Miss Vanessa, I do hope that you are feeling better. Our days here in Michigan are cold and snowy. Tonight it is suppose to be 15 degrees..too cold for me. Your beautiful poppies and the talk of the sun make me feel like spring is not far away.
Thank you for sharing.

I want to hug Harley! I love that he still has his tail!
I am super jealous of your garden... did I tell you my lavender died while I was in Arizona :(

Are those flowers grow in your garden?
Posted by: Reylan | Federal Posters | January 17, 2012 at 10:54 PM
I wrote you that your flowers pics relax myself while I wake up in the morning, don't stop doing that. I feel satisfied when I hang out the washing. I love the smell of laundry detergent in the air. Italians prefer the sun and the wind to drying machines. I don't know why...
Well I take a shower now and then breakfast, ready to start a new day.
Uhm..I make up actors and I can create Injuries, cuts, scars, bruises etc, so I get bored when I see blood in the movies 'cause I have to see them to do good make up.
Thank you Vanessa..

Your flowers are beautiful. Makes me anxious for spring. But we have had a very mild winter so far and I see green things already up in the flower beds.
Del Toro co wrote a series of 3 books-have you read them? Very creepy vampires The Strain, The Fall and Night Eternal. I'm reading the last one. Very good books.
When the Excorcist came out I made my husband go with me. We stood in line for awhile. That movie scared me, I couldn't sleep for days after. But now I can watch it-in the daylight-and only if I don't watch 2 of the scenes. The 3rd movie in that series is actually pretty good, it's more of a detective type movie but has some creepy scenes.

I love Guillermo del Torro. His imagination makes my head spin!
and I enjoy your garden posts. Lovely, lovely pics of blooms and garden fairies ;)
I am so ready to get back into my garden, but these sunny Louisiana days are treacherously deceptive. I know the worst of our winter is in the weeks ahead, so no planting for me for a while. {shhh--I won't speak aloud my plans to start seeds in an area protected from frost and chill} Oh how I wish I had a green house! One day...one day :)

Hello dearest Vanessa! It makes me so happy to hear you speak of lush green gardens and see pretty flowers - it is SO chilly here! We have had some snow - with more expected. I'm not a fan of horror movies - but I do often enjoy a good ghost story. And yes - mostly during the day as I am a chicken and proud to say it! LOL So happy to meet your new furry friend - what a cutie!!! :) I love rearranging things, too, and reorganizing. Hope to get some done rather soon! xoxo

Hey Vanessa!
Please never feel that your garden and flower talk goes underappreciated, I adore it! It thrills me that just a couple thousand miles away there are flowers blooming, while we just got dumped with about a foot of snow! I would adore to have flowers blooming. I suppose my gardening dreams shall have to live vicariously through your blog. Spooky movies Madam, don't frighten yourself too too much. Those Tubular Bells... golly gee! I have indeed seen Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. I think I drove my friend nuts in the theatre because all I did was freak out about that house. What an AMAZING house. And the little girl's room and the library especially. I'd love some just like it. They were perfect. By the way, Harley is precious, but I do hope Matty and he don't ever get in too much of a disagreement!
Lots of love,
Jenn

I dont know that movie - eek! I need to see it. I have been in a very Sherlock Holmes -ish kinda mood. Well, Lost boys & I loved loved loved the movies -we even went on Christmas Day to catch the latest - and now the BBC series Sherlock.
Your flowers are not scary at all! Just gorgeous. Don't you think flowers are kinda the earth's answer to the sky's snowflakes?

Love the flowers - you can never have too many flowers in the house or the garden! I am too scared to watch horror movies and my favourite chore is seeting the table because you can always get a little creative!

I was a little disappointed with how soon we saw the creepies in Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, but from a visual standpoint, it was a gorgeously gothic film. That house and the gardens were too die for and one of my big complaints is that the outdoor settings around the house could have and should have been used for so much more. They were far too luscious to have such little screen time.
