Mother's Day is one of those special days, where I try to conjure up something extra special for the women in my family.
I sometimes have these insane ideas that I try to manifest into reality right before the holiday.
10 years ago, I had started a painting in oil. Heavily textured oil. It was supposed to be a bit of a funny wacky painting of 3 outrageous women. A Mother's Day gift.
Alas, it went into one of my little storage sheds that holds all sorts of finished and unfinished work from 18 years old to now. It was forgotten until Friday night, when I decided to bring it back to life.
Do you know how weird it is, to try to pick up something you left off, 10 years ago? Oh, my aching brain...
Ten years later, perhaps I should have just, painted over it - or started a new one alltogether. But as you know, I can be a bit determined. So the ten year old painting forged ahead.
Plus, these little gals kept whispering things to me, so I painted on...
The painting was brought back to life...
And in the end, I was able to give my mom a painting with bits and pieces from 10 years ago, and bits and pieces from today.
Although, ten years later, my style is different, it was fun to revisit this piece...
The texture of the background is really intense in person. I hope she liked it ;)
It was a delightful time, visiting my Mammie and Dad. You have been home with me before...
Mombie and Dad have a beautiful yard, but there is the one side garden that I find positively enchanting. I could stay in it for days...
It is sooooo hot here already. It is really bizarre. Spring is totally gone and it is over 100' F already. So, we hung out in the shade while everyone got ready to head over to my Grandma and Grandpa's house. A fun magical place you have been to also...
A ton of faces show up at my Gramdma's house, and there is food and dessert and loud voices, and everyone huddled around a table for stories and jokes. This goes on and on for hours. My Grandma loves to dance and sing too. She hit the dance floor with my 14 year old cousin, Victor.
I would love to be a combination of my Grandmother and Judy Dench when I get to be their age...
Although, even if I turn into a complete hagette, which is entirely possible ;) I think having my Grandmother's energy, health & spirit would be more than a girl could ask for...
Did I mention that my Grandma is a huge crafitista. She showed me over 100 stuffed things she is making for the holidays. Plus some super cute little animals...
My precious little cousin Carolina, gave my Grandma the most delightful gift...
Who could really ask for anything more? 3 birds, a mouse and a cat :)
I wish you could hear my Grandma, she makes these "aweeeee" sounds that are so precious. "Ayyyeeee, que preciosos... Que Lindosssss, mi nina bonita..." She says this while squeezing Carolina's face lovingly and hugging her.
Everyone wore their coffee filter corsages. My Aunt Denise wore hers on her wrist...
Mammie opted for head wear...
It was a lovely time indeed. My Grandmother gave me something that she found. So strange, so interesting, and so fab that she has the imagination she has. I will show it to you next time, it is still in the car.
Oh and, I just had to show you something else. Mister Lovee, being his stylish self (I just never know what he is going to be wearing) tickled my fancy, when the wind lifted his sports coat and showed off some fun lining... Bumble Bee stripes & Polka Dot, what a guy ;)
Anything in the name of honey bees makes me happy ;)
Now, I have one true tale to tell you before I go make some sense out of my day. You see, as we were driving back to Tucson, I was snapping photographs out the window. We were in the right lane, and there were 3 cars next to us in the left lane.
As I took photos, Mister Lovee said some Wholey Bleep words, as my heart fell out my chest. I looked up in time to see a huge white van in front of us, completely jerk and stop. Just stop right there on the highway, a dead stop, in 75 MPH traffic. The white van doors, were literally right in my face, as Mister Lovee dramatially swerved to the left in a screaching sound.
There were 3 cars in the lane we swerved into, but there was just enough space, that as Mister Lovee swerved out of the right lane, we fit right in between two cars in the left lane. My whole entire body went limp. Thank goodness that Mister Lovee is quick on his toes. My nerve endings felt like they were being exposed to air... My head throbbed. What a fright...
I called my Mom right away.
It took me all night to get my nerves back in order. It was so scary, and it was one of those moments, where everything happens so perfectly. Had Mister Lovee not swerved and those cars in the left lane, been positioned just as they were for Mister Lovee to squeeze into, things may have not turned out so well...
So, I am delighted to be here, typing this. Yet another reminder to live each moment to the fullest. Thank you angels...
I hope you all had a marvelous weekend. Much more soooooon!
