I made it a priority to admire and collect flowers for the 1st of May.
Time goes by so quickly, that if you do not slow yourself down to stop and smell the roses, they'll be gone before you know it.
I can easily flutter from project to project, but to me, slowing down enough to enjoy the bounty of the garden is a very important act of mindfulness.
And so, that is what I set out to do.
The poppies last a day at most, and I wanted to really sit and admire the ranunculus and peony patch.
The birds are loud, there are baby quail in a giant pot with their mama, and the cardinals chitter chatter the whole day long.
The days got extra warm, but then a big wind came through and now we are at a perfect cooler temperature for the next week.
This is good news for the roses.
The Colette's are extra tender, so the cooler weather delights them completely.
I went through the garden, collecting this and that, and brought them inside to admire.
The ranunculus did so well this year.
And the roses are in an incredible firework display explosion at this very moment.
I really have to calm myself down, because I get so excited looking at them all, that I almost start to spin.
Does that happen to you fellow garden keepers?
I want to absorb it all and somehow get absolutely wonderlandishly mad admiring the beauty of it all.
I don't want to miss a second with these lovelies.
I finally have some sweetie peonies that unfurled before the sun could scorch them.
I placed them on the east side of an apple tree, with ranunculus and strawberries surrounding them.
Quite an odd combination for certain, but they are so happy there.
It's such a dizzyingly delightful time.
With all these flowers bobbing over the arbors, I'm beginning to wonder if I am dreaming.
I spend a lot of time swooning as Teddy looks at me quizzically.
Likely wondering what on earth I am up to.
Running to and fro around the garden.
Intoxicated by the rose infused air, I'm sure.
It is an absolute symphony of flowers, which I shall share upon my next visit.
But for now, I bring you a top-heavy bouquet.
I would surely fail in floristry school.
But the dogs and me think it's a-ok.
And so, I sit in the chaise across from the floral poof ottoman, dogs under my feet, and snap these photos just for you.
Earlier in the day Teddy got all muddy so I bathed him outside, and he shook off all over my windows.
Perfect timing for these photos, but nothing Teddy does could ever upset me.
However, if you were wondering why there are splatters of soap and water spots all over my windows, now you know why.
Not that you care, because I certainly don't mind :-)
Well, I best be off to hang some curtains.
I hope you are doing very well in your neck of the woods.
Little Matty is still hanging in there, we slept in the country last night and I tended garden there all morning.
The elderflower bush that a former neighbor gave me as a sprout is as big as a house now.
It's just wonderful.
Do you ever make anything with elderflower?
I best be on my way for now.
Be well, and I shall see you soon.
Love,
Vanessa
