Ladurée

A few years ago, I caught sight of Ladurée cakes and pastries and almost fainted.  By this time you have heard of the place yourself, I am certain.  However, a glimpse in is a must if we are meeting here to talk about sweets.

Let's venture to Paris, shall we?

Louis-Ernest Ladurée founded the bakery on the Rue Royale, Paris in 1862.  It burned down in 1871, during the Paris Commune uprising, and later was re-built.  You can read about it here, along with all the details of how the Ladurée of today came to be (with other locations as well).

For today, let's travel to the Champs-Élysées location...

How does one even choose?

Ladurée is known for its incredible macarons of course...

But their list of scrumptious pastries doesn't end there.

Wayne Thiebaud

I just love this man.

I think I was in New York City as a kid, when I first saw a huge print of Wayne Thiebaud's work in a bakery or shop of some sort.

Maybe I was in MoMA, I am just not certain?

But it stuck with me.

Big time.

I have been in love ever since.

And to think, he never thought anyone would like his "sweet" paintings.

In person, the thickness of his oil paint is so like frosting.

It makes you want to bake and/or paint right away.
