« Back to Art Dolls Fairytale Forest Creatures Fungi
My Love for stories and creatures, treasures and forests, has always been quite alive. However, the women in my family completely enforced such passion and desire for fairytales, stories, dolls, witches, magic, woodland creatures and more...
My first memories of my grandmother (nana), Josephine, are of her telling me a story of the Boys turned into swans by a witch. Funny enough, my memories of my mother are the same, only her stories were partially thought up by herself, and were more fantastic than any 6 year old could hope for.
I am more than thankful, to have been able to live in a fantasy world, creativity nurtured. My mother created so much beauty for us growing up, and continues to do so today. And, my grandma, still tells her stories...
These dolls I have made came to me on a whim. Early in the morning, still in a dreamlike state. I saw them in the woods. I saw their story...
A rough version of the story, (to be perfected one day, when it visits again) goes like this...
The fairytale forest girls are peasants that live in a village just outside of the fairytale forest. Right before you enter the forest, you pass a cobbler, a book binding shop, a dressmaker & jeweler and a Pastry shop. The girls wait ever so patienly for the book maker to throw out pages in order for them to make these dresses. They use mushroom paste and slivers of mica to jewel their gowns. Also, the dressmaker and jeweler occasionaly throw out some wonderul scraps to add to their dresses and to embellish their paper gowns. Some days there are lovely pastries left at the end of the day, that the pastry maker gladly shares so that the girls may take all of these treasures and run deep into the forest. In the forest they become as lovely as any princess in the land. They stay for hours and hours putting on plays for the forest creatures & throwing tea parties. There are so many more stories.. But for now, you have a brief introduction...
See you Through the Secret Keyhole,
